Editorial context · not a clinical result
Short answer

Cheers and ZBiotics take different approaches. ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol is a probiotic drink with an engineered Bacillus subtilis strain, taken before your first drink. Cheers Restore is a capsule with DHM and L-cysteine, taken after your last drink or before bed, and Cheers Relief is a separate next-day capsule with caffeine. There is no published head-to-head trial, so the useful comparison is timing, ingredients and format, not a winner.

01

Cheers vs ZBiotics at a glance

The biggest difference is when you take each one. ZBiotics is designed for before you drink. Cheers Restore is designed for after the last drink or before bed. Cheers Relief is for the next day. They also differ in what they are: a live probiotic in a small bottle, versus capsule supplements with botanical and amino-acid ingredients. The table below lays out the details from each manufacturer's own pages.

02

ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol: a probiotic you drink first

ZBiotics identifies its organism as Bacillus subtilis ZB183 and describes it as designed to break down acetaldehyde in the gut. ZBiotics scientists published lab work in 2024 showing an engineered strain reduced acetaldehyde in gut-simulated conditions. We did not find a published human trial measuring hangover symptoms. Read our ZBiotics review for the head-to-head, and does ZBiotics work for the evidence in detail.

03

Cheers Restore: DHM and L-cysteine after drinking

Cheers Restore lists DHM (dihydromyricetin) with L-cysteine, and its directions call for three capsules after your last drink or before bed. DHM research is mostly preclinical: a 2026 systematic review found mainly cell and animal studies, plus two small clinical trials of DHM-containing plant extracts rather than isolated DHM. L-cysteine had one small positive placebo-controlled trial in a 2022 systematic review, which rated that evidence very low quality.

Cheers Restore itself has one published human study. In a 2026 observational study, 90 adults who chose when to use it rated their next-day energy, clarity, well-being and sleep slightly better than on alcohol-only nights. It was not randomized or placebo-controlled, and its authors call for a randomized trial to establish cause and effect.

04

Cheers Relief is a different product

Cheers Relief is not Restore under another name. Its listed ingredients include white willow bark, ginger, L-theanine (100 mg) and caffeine (50 mg) per dose, and it is meant for the day after drinking. White willow bark is a source of salicylates, so read the warnings if you avoid aspirin, and count the caffeine alongside your coffee. Our Joyrise vs Cheers page covers Restore and Relief in more depth.

06

Can you take Cheers and ZBiotics together?

No study has tested the combination. Because they are taken at different times and contain different ingredients, some people consider both, but stacking products does not make more drinking safe. Read both labels in full, check for overlap with anything else you take, such as caffeine or aspirin-like ingredients, and ask a pharmacist if you take medicines.

Where Joyrise fits

Joyrise is a DHM product like Cheers Restore, with different directions and its own formula. Joyrise is an Alcohol Metabolizing Aid: a DHM supplement built around dihydromyricetin. The capsule label says to take 3 capsules while consuming alcohol, or before bed. Do not exceed 3 servings (9 capsules) per day. Much of the alcohol-related DHM evidence is preclinical, and Joyrise does not lower BAC, reverse impairment, or make driving safe. Read the full directions and warnings on our Alcohol Metabolizing Aid capsules page before you buy.
